Statue of Kusunoki Masashige (1294–1336) was a brilliant 14th-century Japanese samurai and military tactician. He is celebrated in Japanese history for his unwavering loyalty to Emperor Go-Daigo and his mastery of guerrilla warfare, epitomizing the ultimate ideals of bushido.
In 1331, he joined Emperor Go-Daigo in a revolt to overthrow the Kamakura shogunate and restore imperial rule (the Kenmu Restoration).
