Sugarloaf Mountain is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on a peninsula at the mouth of Guanabara Bay. Rising 396 m above the harbor, the peak is named for its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugarloaf.
The Sugarloaf Cable Car (Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a two-stage aerial tramway lifting passengers 396 m above sea level.
The iconic, glass-walled Bondinho is a major tourist attraction in itself. It transports visitors in two stages: first from the base to Urca Hill, and then up to the summit of Sugarloaf, offering 360-degree views during the ascent. The mountain got its name in the 16th century because its steep, rounded shape closely resembled the traditional clay molds used in those days to refine and ship sugar.
