Favela Rocinha is located on a large hillside overlooking Rio de Janeiro. It is the largest favela or slum with around 180,000 people living in a tightly packed city.
Despite its large population, Rocinha takes up less than a square mile of land. The extreme lack of space forces families to build houses on top of one another.
